Balu Pass Guided Hike: Bear Trails and Tales

Discover the secret world of bear signs. Look for bear trails, scat and tracks and learn how to hike safely in bear country. Though we may see a bear on this hike if we are lucky, we will not be seeking them out. The focus of this hike is to learn about bear biology and how to hike safely in bear country.

When: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (PDT) on the following dates: 

  • Saturday, July 11 - Great Glacier Trail, $65
  • Wednesday, July 15 - Great Glacier Trail, $65
  • Wednesday, August 5 - Balu Pass Trail, $97.50
  • Saturday, August 29 - Balu Pass Trail, $97.50

Where: 

  • Great Glacier Trail is 8.5km return, with 320m elevation gain. The hike will take approximately 4–5 hrs. Meet at the Illecillewaet Campground Kiosk.
  • Balu Pass Trail is 13km return, with 780m elevation gain. The hike will take approximately 7hrs. Meet at Summit Station visitor centre in Roger's Pass.
