WHAT: Pursuant to section 3(1)(c) of the National Parks of Canada Fire Protection Regulations, the starting and/or maintaining of fires Kootenay National Park of Canada is hereby PROHIBITED by order of the Superintendent, Kootenay National Park of Canada.

PROHIBITED: This fire ban includes ALL wood or briquette fires, turkey fryers, chimeneas, tiki torches, candles and use of portable fire pans/pits/boxes/stoves and park supplied fire receptacles.

EXEMPT: Provided they are under direct supervision and CSA approved or UL certified:

• portable propane fire pits
• gas or propane stoves and barbeques designed for
cooking or heating
• propane or gas fuelled lanterns (enclosed flame)
• patio heaters (propane, catalytic or
infrared/radiant)

WHERE: This fire ban is park-wide including all front and backcountry campgrounds and day-use areas in Kootenay National Park.

WHY: For the prevention of wildfire during elevated Fire Danger conditions in Kootenay National Park.

PENALTY: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
