Decommissioning of public EV chargers

Issued: August 16, 2025

Effective Tuesday, September 2, electric vehicle (EV) chargers at Bob Hunter Memorial Park and Black Walnut Day Use Area will no longer be available for public use. These chargers will be reserved exclusively for Parks Canada’s electric fleet vehicles to meet growing operational needs and support the Government of Canada’s commitment to reducing emissions through its Greening Government Strategy.

This change will help ensure that essential fleet vehicles have reliable access to charging infrastructure, enabling park operations to continue in a sustainable manner. Secondary considerations include managing rising operational costs, addressing charger availability challenges, and ensuring positive and safe interactions between visitors and staff. In some cases, extended use and charger misuse created difficult situations for both staff and other park users.

Parks Canada remains committed to sustainability through continued investment in green operations, including the expansion of our electric vehicle fleet.

We appreciate your understanding as we take steps to ensure responsible, fair, and safe use of park infrastructure.
