Restricted activity: Fishing and watercraft use in all areas in Kootenay National Park

What: Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National Parks General Regulations, of the Canada National Parks Act, the following activity is restricted or prohibited by order of the Superintendent:

All watercraft use and fishing is prohibited in all areas in Kootenay National Park. Prohibited watercraft include but are not limited
to: kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, rafts, inflatable craft in which the user is able to sit, lie, or stand within or on top, or any other type or class of vessel. Fishing and the use of waders and wading boots is prohibited in all waters.
The Radium Hot Springs facility remains open.
Exception: Authorized commercial operators

Where: All waterbodies within Kootenay National Park (see map).

WHY: To prevent the introduction of whirling disease and other aquatic invasive species. It will remain in effect until alternate management strategies are implemented.

Penalty: Violators may be charged under the Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty $25 000.
