AREA CLOSURE - Wildlife crossing structures

WHAT: Pursuant to Section 7(1) of the National
Parks General Regulations, of the Canada National
Parks Act, the following activity is restricted or
prohibited by order of the Superintendent:
Entering or travelling through a wildlife crossing
structure. A wildlife crossing structure is a feature
designed and constructed to enable safe and
effective movement of wildlife across barriers such
as roads or watercourse, reducing habitat
fragmentation and minimizing risk of wildlife-vehicle
collisions.
WHERE: All wildlife crossing structures along the
Trans-Canada Highway in Banff National Park
between the east entry gate to Banff and the
boundary with Yoho National Park, as well as the
underpass at Whitehorn Drive in Lake Louise and
Two Jack Canal wildlife crossing structure. Specific
locations provided in appendix.
WHY: To support the safe and undisturbed use of
crossing structures by wildlife.
PENALTY: Violators may be charged under the
Canada National Parks Act: maximum penalty
$25 000.
