Ecological Monitoring Program Remote Cameras Initiative

Some Parks Canada parks and trails are equipped with motion-activated cameras for monitoring wildlife or habitat uses.

The images captured by the cameras are collected under the authority of section 8 of the Canada National Parks Act for studies, survey and wildlife monitoring purposes. These uses will not typically result in an administrative decision being made about individuals, however, if illegal activity is observed the photos will be shared with the Law Enforcement Branch for the purpose of enforcing legislation administered by Parks Canada in support of its mandate.

Your personal information is administered in accordance with the Canada National Parks Act, the Privacy Act and other applicable laws.

As the photos taken are not typically associated with a specific individual, with non-identifiable information, Parks Canada will not be able to provide you with your right of access to the photos taken.

Since all photographic content of identifiable individuals will be deleted from the files as a result of the process, Parks Canada will not be able to grant access rights to the photos being taken. Images of people are considered personal information and are administered in accordance with the Privacy Act and other applicable laws.

In case of investigation for illegal activity, you have the right to the protection of, access to, and correction of your personal information, which is described in Personal Information Bank (PIB) Law Enforcement Program PC PPU 072.
